Encompassing the Fields of Human Expression through
Visual Communication
NSCAD University offers certificates, undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine and media arts, craft, design and historical and critical studies.
Foundation Division
All degree programs begin with the Foundation Year Program. Students receive a broad introduction to the practice and theory of visual expression in its many forms while acquiring those fundamental skills common to all disciplines. From here, students make informed decisions about their choice of major.
Fine Arts Division
Earn your degree in such subjects as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture or interdisciplinary studies.
Media Arts Division
You can study digital media, film, performance, photography, video and interdisciplinary studies.
Craft Division
Areas include Ceramics, Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing, and Textiles.
Design Division
Students may choose an honours degree in communication design, major in graphic design or our international major in graphic design in which students study in Halifax in English for two years of the degree and in Puebla, Mexico in Spanish for the remaining two years.
Historical and Critical Studies Division
While all students in all degrees take courses from this division, students may also minor or major in art history.
